Proposal

I. Overview

Almost all of the SCAD students have experience in teamwork projects, and a lot of them have worked with other students in different majors. For SCAD students, if they are in a teamwork project, most of their team members are their classmates or friends whom they have already known before. It is difficult for them if they want to collaborate with students whom they have never met. For example, if a Fashion Design student needs to do a fashion film project, this student needs to collaborate with film students to shoot the film. Therefore, how this Fashion Design student can connect with a group of film students would be a problem.

I am a dual major student in SCAD, my other major is sound design, so I did a lot of cross-major projects. Based on my own experience and my research, for now, if a student wants to find crews or team members from other majors, there are several methods to use. For example, they can post the project information and their needs to their Facebook or some specific Facebook group, such as SCAD Collaboration Board, SCAD‐Atlanta Film Cast & Crew, SCAD Game Development Network, etc. Also, there are some crew‐call channels in different majors’ Discord servers, and student also can post their needs to those channels.

However, according to my statistics, there is about one reply for every ten crew‐call posts. The current methods are limited and inefficient if a student wants to find someone to collaborate with. Also, these methods are passive. In addition, everyone’s available time is different, so how to let students who want to join the cross‐major projects can figure out the timing problem in advance is also a problem.

II. Idea

This project aims to promote collaboration between SCAD students in different majors and enable them to find team crews more effectively. So, this project will be a platform that allows students to connect and communicate with each other. For example, students can be project leaders and find crews at this platform, or they can join a project through this platform. In order to enable students to have a more in-depth understanding of a project or each other's capabilities, students can post their project’s information and upload their best works or their reels to this platform.

III. Scope

I will use all my skills, techniques, and experience to do this project. My initial thought was that this ten‐week project will explore how to promote collaboration between SCAD students in different majors and find crews more effectively. Also, I will consider making the project member recruitment more positive and promoting two‐way communication. If time is enough, I may expand the applicability of this platform from SCAD students to all art schools’ students.

IV. Process

  1. Discovery: Design and launch interview and survey; in the meantime, do secondary research. Then analyze data.

  2. Define: The design approach, persona, and journey map.

  3. Develop: Create wireframes, prototypes, and do user tests.

  4. Delivery: Create a process book and a video.
